I hear it all the time (and not just in my own head when I wake up by the ‘mama! mama! mummy!’ call). Personally I don’t have a great track record when it comes to sleeping. Nightmares for as long as I can remember (and no I haven’t grown out of them yet!), back pain, shift-work, pregnancy, breastfeeding relentlessly for 2 years (as in every 1.5-2 hours over night) and now hormone imbalance caused by chronic sleep deprivation (hello ‘that hospital visit’). Oh and I can’t forget the full moon (we truly are connected to everything around us)!
Even when someone doesn’t admit to being tired it shows up elsewhere…baggy eyes, quick to get angry, feeling flat, anxiety, coffee+++, the list goes on.
I would love to hear from you about what keeps you from getting decent sleep! And anything you do that helps (even if it doesn’t solve everything). So leave a comment below and who knows how many people will find your tips useful!
For those of you who know me you’ll know about my dreams, the crazy ones, the ones that go from nightmare to premonition-type all in one night as far back as I can remember. Some of these dreams are useful like the time I ‘saw’ a friend die during a training flight and was able to warn him. Other times I just want to go to bed and actually get some decent sleep. This doesn’t happen very often. So when I am super tired I will lie down on the floor, put an eye pillow on and listen to a guided relaxation. I feel rested. Often more rested than if I went to bed and had to ‘deal with those dreams’. So if sleep is a problem for you or you just want more energy, try this free guided relaxation – 10 minutes, lie down, and listen.
‘That day’ was The North Face 100km ultra-marathon trail running race that takes place in the World Heritage listed Blue Mountains National Park of Australia. I was a DNF (did not finish) at the 54km mark. I don’t know what I was thinking turning up to that event thinking I could run it with a foot injury that was all taped up after extensive physio the month prior but that’s my stubbornness and positivity coming out! Or maybe just my stubbornness 😉 But last night I went for a 30 minute walk. That’s right, a WALK. And I thought, this is so great! Energising! How much more energising would it be to get a 30 minute trail run in?! But this time I’m going to be smart about it. So I am amping up my pilates to get those glutes functioning a lot better and get my core strong. After TNF 100km challenge I had decided to ‘never run again’. It’s been 6 years and a baby, but I’m ready to give it another go. Never say never! For now I will walk for more energy and keep doing my energising guided relaxations like this one here. It is FREE and it is only 10 minutes – check it out. https://nikkiveliz.leadpages.co/energyhit/
I was brought up vegetarian. And here I am with liver in my freezer awaiting ‘consumption’. My iron stores are low, way low. It’s funny, my iron stores were higher when I was vegetarian as opposed to the last couple of years of having introduced meat into my diet. So I didn’t think I’d have any problems with my iron levels. But yes, my iron levels have dropped to the lowest they have ever been and I will eat liver. Well, I’ll try. I have a friend who will cook it with all sorts of yummy Indian spices for me! Hurrah! So liver it is to help boost my energy producing iron levels. And in the meantime, I will keep doing my guided meditation for a daily energy boost. Try my FREE guided meditation (only 10 minutes & you get to lie down!) https://nikkiveliz.leadpages.co/energyhit/ Or join me eating liver – we can get a support group going 😉
